How to Reach

Reaching Assam, a beautiful and culturally rich state in northeastern India, is convenient via air, rail, and road, thanks to its well-developed transport infrastructure. Here’s how you can reach Assam from various parts of India and abroad:

By Air

  • Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport (Guwahati Airport): This is the primary international gateway to Assam and the entire northeastern region of India. It is well-connected to major cities across India and to international destinations like Bangkok. From the airport, you can easily hire taxis or take buses to reach various parts of Assam.
  • Dibrugarh Airport, Jorhat Airport, Silchar Airport, and Tezpur Airport: These airports connect Assam to major cities in India, making air travel within the Northeast region and to Assam more accessible.

By Rail

Assam has a comprehensive railway network, with Guwahati Railway Station being the most significant hub in the state, connecting it to all major cities across India. Direct trains to Guwahati are available from New Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai, Chennai, Bangalore, and other major cities. Other important railway stations in Assam include Dibrugarh, Jorhat, Silchar, and Tezpur, facilitating easy rail travel within the state.

By Road

Assam is connected to the rest of India via a network of national highways, making road travel a viable option. The state shares borders with West Bengal, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Meghalaya, and international borders with Bhutan and Bangladesh, allowing for road access from these regions as well. Long-distance buses operated by both government and private companies run between Assam and neighboring states, including overnight services from major cities like Kolkata.

By Water

The Brahmaputra River, one of the major rivers in India, flows through Assam and offers an unconventional yet fascinating mode of reaching the state. River cruises and ferry services operate on the Brahmaputra, connecting various riverine towns and cities within Assam, although this mode is more about the experience and less about reaching Assam from other states or countries.

Regardless of the mode of travel, reaching Assam is relatively straightforward, allowing travelers to explore its natural beauty, wildlife, tea gardens, and cultural heritage with ease.
