Reaching Meghalaya, located in the northeastern part of India, can be accomplished through various modes of transportation, including air, rail, and road. Here's how you can get to this beautiful state:

By Air

  • Nearest Airport: The nearest major airport is the Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport in Guwahati, Assam, which is about 120 kilometers away from Shillong, the capital of Meghalaya. This airport is well-connected with major cities in India like Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, and Bangalore.
  • Shillong Airport (Umroi Airport): Shillong has a small domestic airport located in Umroi, about 30 kilometers from the city center. However, flights to Umroi are limited and might only be available from Kolkata.

By Rail

  • Nearest Railway Station: Guwahati Railway Station in Assam is the nearest major railhead to Meghalaya, situated around 100 kilometers from Shillong. Guwahati is well-connected by train to major cities across India. From Guwahati, one can hire taxis or take buses to reach Shillong and other parts of Meghalaya.

By Road

  • From Guwahati: Road connectivity to Meghalaya is excellent, especially from Guwahati, Assam. You can hire taxis or take buses from Guwahati to Shillong. The journey offers scenic views and takes approximately 3 to 4 hours.
  • National Highways: Meghalaya is connected to the rest of India through National Highway 40 (NH40), which links Shillong with Guwahati, and National Highway 44 (NH44), which connects Meghalaya with Tripura and the rest of the northeastern states.
