Festivals in Tirupati

  • Brahmotsavam: This is one of the most important and grand festivals celebrated at the Sri Venkateswara Temple. It usually takes place over nine days during the month of September. The festival involves processions, rituals, and cultural events. The Garuda Vahana Seva, where the deity is taken out on a grand procession using the Garuda (eagle) as a vehicle, is a highlight.
  • Vaikunta Ekadasi: Celebrated in December or January, Vaikunta Ekadasi is considered highly auspicious. Pilgrims believe that passing through the Vaikunta Dwaram (gate to heaven) on this day at the Sri Venkateswara Temple will lead to salvation.
  • Rathasapthami: This festival is celebrated in January or February, marking the seventh day of the bright half of the lunar month. The Sun God is worshipped on this day, and processions with the deity on seven different vahanas (vehicles) take place.
  • Janmashtami: The birth of Lord Krishna is celebrated with devotion in Tirupati. Special prayers, bhajans, and processions are organized at temples, including the ISKCON Temple.
  • Navaratri: The nine-day festival dedicated to the goddess Durga is celebrated with fervor in Tirupati. Special pujas, cultural events, and processions are organized during this period.
  • Diwali: The festival of lights is celebrated with enthusiasm, and the Sri Venkateswara Temple is illuminated on this occasion. Devotees participate in special prayers and rituals.
  • Teppotsavam (Float Festival): This annual festival takes place at the Sri Venkateswara Temple, where the deities are taken out in a procession on a float in the temple tank.
  • Karthika Parva Deepotsavam: Celebrated during the Kartika month, this festival involves lighting lamps and diyas in and around the temple premises, creating a beautiful and divine atmosphere.
